International Airlines Group CEO sees no evidence of alliance providing cost savings to members

International Airlines Group (IAG) CEO Willie Walsh stated (10-Apr-2014) at the CAPA Airlines in Transition conference in Dublin that he has not personally seen any evidence of an alliance providing cost savings to members. IAG carriers British Airways and Iberia are members of the oneworld alliance, and Mr Walsh concluded airlines incur costs in alliance membership. With mergers and acquisitions, carriers enjoy cost and revenue synergies versus only revenue synergies from alliances, Mr Walsh said. However, he did note, "that's not to say alliances don't work".
