Hong Kong International Airport pax up 8%, cargo 1% in Jun-2013; 28.9 million pax in 1H2013

Hong Kong International Airport reported (14-Jul-2013) sustained growth in 1H2013 with a 4.7% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers to 28.9 million, a 2% increase in cargo volume to 2 million tonnes and a 5.1% increase in aircraft movements to 180,650. The airport stated the solid performance was supported by overall traffic growth in Jun-2013. Passengers numbers during the month increased 7.6% to 5.0 million, cargo volume increased 1.0% to 337,000 tonnes and aircraft movements increased 7.5% to 30,555. Passenger traffic growth was driven by Hong Kong resident travel and visitor traffic, which saw 12% and 10% increases, respectively. Passenger traffic to/from mainland China and Southeast Asia performed particularly well. Meanwhile, Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Stanley Hui also reported cross-boundary ferry traffic between Hong Kong Airport and eight ports in the Pearl River Delta including Macau recorded more than 1.3 million passengers, up 5.8%, in 1H2013. In cargo traffic, growth was primarily due to a 3% increase in exports while cargo throughput to/from North America outperformed other key regions. [more - original PR]
