Hong Kong International Airport pax up 6%, record cargo in Nov-2012

Hong Kong International Airport passenger numbers up 6% - traffic highlights for Nov-2012:

  • Passenger numbers: 4.6 million, +5.5% year-on-year;
  • Cargo volume: 374,000 tonnes, +9.3%;

The airport attributed (16-Dec-2012) the growth in passenger traffic to Hong Kong resident travel, which saw a 12% rise. Passenger traffic to/from Southeast Asia and mainland China performed particularly well. Growth in cargo throughput was primarily due to 11% year-on-year growth in exports. During the month, cargo throughput to/from North America and Southeast Asia outperformed other key regions. Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Stanley Hui confirmed that airlines will add 250 extra passenger flights during the Christmas and New Year holidays with popular destinations including Taipei, Seoul and Southeast Asia. Looking ahead, Mr Hui said "we remain cautiously optimistic about the potential for cargo throughput, and we foresee this positive trend continuing."
