High-speed rail pose threat to Chinese aviation: China Eastern

China Eastern Airlines general manager Liu Shaoyong said: "Airlines should seek cooperation with high-speed railways to explore international markets where high-speed railways can't reach" (Global Times, 26-Nov-2010). The Medium and Long-term Railway Development Plan was issued in 2004 which states that by 2020, major cities in China will be linked by high-speed rail. Once completed, high-speed railway projects will take 60% of the market share covered by air travel today.
