Hawaiian Airlines: US capacity focus a 'permanent development'

Hawaiian Airlines president & CEO Mark Dunkerley, speaking at the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit 2014, stated (07-Aug-2014) the consolidation of the US airline industry in recent years has had an impact not only domestically but on international markets. He noted that consolidation, which has seen 85% of all domestic OED traffic in the US be in the hands of "four extremely powerful airlines" has resulted in a "seismic shift in the nature of the US airline industry". He added that "this has changed behaviour at a very very very fundamental level". He noted that focus on capacity discipline in the US market is "not transitory" adding that he believes it is a "permanent development". He added that the "four major airlines are relatively free of skirmishing that had really typified the US industry for the 30 years since the advent of US degregulation".
