German airports pax up 3%, cargo down 4% in 1Q2012

Germany's Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) reported (14-May-2012) passenger numbers at German airports increased 3.0% year-on-year to 20.9 million while air cargo volume at German airports fell 4.2% to 1.0 million tonnes in the first three months of 2012. Details include:

  • Passenger numbers: 20.9 million, +3.0% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 5.7 million, -0.4%;
    • International: 15.2 million, +4.4%;
      • Europe: 11.2 million, +2.7%;
        • Spain: 1.9 million, -1.4%;
        • UK: 1.3 million, +2.5%;
        • Italy: 1.0 million, -4.7%;
        • Turkey: 946,000, +5.2%;
        • France: 771,000, +4.7%;
      • Intercontinental: 3.9 million, +9.5%;
        • Asia: 1.8 million, +8.4%;
        • Americas: 1.5 million, +6.0%;
          • US: 967,000, +3.6%;
          • Canada: 164,000, +3.4%;
        • Africa: 644,000, +22.8%;
          • Egypt: 294,000, +54.9%;
        • Australia/Oceania: 13,000, -5.5%;
  • Cargo volume: 1.0 million tonnes, -4.2%;
    • Europe (excl Germany): 293,000, +0.1%;
    • Asia: 429,000, -4.4%;
    • Americas: 222,000, -7.2%.
