FAA approves first ground based augmentation system with Airservices Australia

USA's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced (21-Sep-09) approval of Honeywell's Smartpath Precision Landing System, which will increase safety and efficiency at airports by providing precise navigation service based on the global positioning system (GPS). The first US approved system is located in Memphis and will become operational early next year. Airservices Australia worked in partnership with the FAA to build and certify the ground based augmentation system (GBAS).
