El Al announced (26-Nov-2013) the launch of its new LCC subsidiary, UP, which will commence operations to five European destinations on 30-Mar-2014:

The carrier will offer economy and premium economy seating, as well as two fare classes, UP Basic and UP Smart. UP Basic will cover the fare and is non-refundable or amendable. UP Smart includes baggage and premium seating where available as well as lounge access in Tel Aviv. UP Smart tickets will also be refundable and amendable. Passengers choosing the UP Basic fare will be able to choose seats in economy, premium economy and 'preferred seats' for a fee, and will be charged for checked baggage. UP Basic passengers will also be charged for airport check-in, with check-in to be complimentary online and at self-service kiosks. El Al CEO Elyezer Shkedy said: "Today we are launching a new and dynamic aviation brand - UP, which brings a declaration of renewal and addresses the changing needs of the aviation world. We are joining the international aviation trend and the major airlines, while being attentive to our customers' various preferences. The UP brand allows the customer to build the product and choose what he is paying for. I am convinced that this move will improve our competitive abilities, expand our customer reach and offer a better response to the various changing preferences, while offering flights at lower costs."
