China State Council approves plan for third airport in Hainan

China's State Council approval plans for the construction of an airport project in Qionghai (Hainan province) (Xinhua, 20-Jul-2011). The project will provide Hainan with its third airport. The other two airports are in Haikou and Sanya. The new airport will be constructed in Qionghai's Zhongyuan Township. The project has a construction cost of around CNY945 million (USD146 million), and will have capacity to handle 3190 flights, or 290,000 passengers and 725 metric tons of cargo, annually by 2015.
