Brisbane Airport pax up 1% in 3QFY2014, Japan enters top 10; expects strong year-end
Australia's Brisbane Airport reported (17-Apr-2014) an 1.4% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers to 5.2 million in the three months ended 31-Mar-2014. Domestic passengers increased 0.6% to 4.0 million and international passengers increased 4.3% to 1.1 million while outbound transit passengers increased 18.8% to 75,180. In the international market, the airport noted a busy Chinese New Year, with the China, Hong Kong and Taiwan markets up 12%, 15% and 20%, respectively. More capacity was offered by China Southern Airlines and the Taiwanese carriers during the quarter. Other markets driving the overall growth in the Mar-2014 quarter were Brisbane's second and fifth largest: New Zealand and the US. The Japan market also made a surprise appearance in the top 10 in Mar-2014 with monthly passenger numbers exceeding 5,000 for the first time since 2010.
