Beijing-Shanghai HSR line may increase speeds

CSR Corp announced it may increase the operating speeds of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail (HSR) line, following a move in Jul-2011 to slow the service after a fatal train collision on the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou HSR line (Xinhua, 22-May-2012). The Beijing-Shanghai rail line was slowed to speeds of either 250 kph or 300 kph. CSR Corp believes it can safely raise speeds to 350-380 kph. When the Beijing-Shanghai rail line first went into operation, Chinese airlines discounted fares between the two cities by up to 50%.
