Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail to commence operation before Oct-2011

China's Ministry of Railways stated the high-speed railway linking Beijing and Shanghai will be completed and commence operations before the October National Holiday in 2011, which will cut surface transport between the two major cities to four hours one way (Evening News, 08-Dec-2010). Flight time between the two cities is 2.5 hours.
