Avinor airports handle close to 50 million pax in 2013, twice the number in 1993

Norway's Avinor reported (10-Jan-2014) the number of passengers travelling to/from its airports reached 48.3 million in 2013, an increase of 4.3% year-on-year and is more than twice the number in 1993. Domestic traffic increased 1.3% while international traffic increased 9.2%. Oslo Airport saw traffic growth of 4% and handled almost 23 million passengers. Bergen Airport saw traffic growth of 6.9% and passenger numbers exceeding six million for the first time. Stavanger Airport recorded traffic growth of 5.8%, while Trondheim Airport was at 3.6%. A number of other airports also experienced strong traffic growth - among them were Ålesund and Harstad/Narvik. The growth in passenger figures is largely due to new international routes. Aircraft movements at Avinor's airports increased 1.8%. [more - original PR]

Avinor: "The growth in traffic illustrates how important aviation is to Norway. The figures tell a tale of economic development, an internationally oriented business sector, population growth and the effect of competition on ticket prices. For Avinor the challenge is to meet the capacity requirements in the years ahead. The ongoing construction of new terminals at Oslo and Bergen airports are the most important short-term measures," Dag Falk-Petersen, CEO. Source: Company statement, 10-Jan-2014.
