Airbus says WTO ruling confirms Boeing subsidies affected European aerospace

Airbus stated the WTO ruling on the EU case against US government support for Boeing confirms that the US manufacturer received "massive and illegal government subsidies for many decades" that have had a negative impact on Europe's aerospace industry (Wall Street Journal, 31-Jan-2011). Airbus stated it believes the WTO report, when made publicly available, will find that Boeing has received at lease USD5 billion in illegal subsidies and is the intended recipient of more than USD2 billion in state and local subsidies due to be supplied in the future. Airbus also believes the report will state US subsidies have had a greater distortive impact than launch aid provided to Airbus by European governments.
