AirAsia confirms plans to establish hub at Langkawi Airport

AirAsia confirmed (18-Mar-2015) plans to establish a new international hub at Langkawi Airport. The airline will base five aircraft at the airport and will focus on ASEAN destinations before gradually expanding to China and India. AirAsia CEO Aireen Oman said the airport is under-utilised and the carrier's plans will be supported by Malaysia Airports Holdings under a five-year programme. AirAsia currently operates three routes from Langkawi with a total of 98 weekly frequencies. [more - original PR]
