Summer flight schedule 2012: 1.5% more passengers

18-Dec-2012

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) during the summer flight schedule 2012 from April to October the number of passengers exceeded the level of the preceding year by 1.5% and amounted to 66.0 million. The increase stems mainly from a growth of foreign traffic which grew by 3.0% reaching 51.9 million passengers. By contrast domestic traffic (14.0 million passengers) went down by 3.6%.

Outbound air traffic developed in different directions. Since 1990, the number of air passengers travelling to the Greek islands declined most considerably (‑14.2%). By contrast, above-average increases were recorded for Egypt (+21.3%) and Tunisia (+44.7%). Due to political instability, however, these two countries had been affected by a strong decline in the number of passengers a year earlier. Now they came close again to the level of summer 2010.

The mediterranian islands as the most important target-region for outbound air-traffic-tourism from Germany (5.7 million passengers) saw only a stagnation (+0.2%).

Palma de Mallorca (3.4 million passengers) located on Balearic Islands being the most important airport abroad for passenger traffic from Germany grew by 3.8%.
