Delta Air Lines has selected GE's newly enhanced CF6-80E1 engines to power its recently ordered 10 Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Along with the engine selection, Delta Air Lines and GE have also signed a long-term OnPointTM solution services agreement for the CF6-80E1 engines.

"Delta's selection of GE CF6-80E1 engines to power these 10 A330-300 aircraft enables us to enhance the fuel efficiency and reliability of our fleet while simultaneously reducing maintenance cost," said Nat Pieper, Delta Vice President of Fleet Strategy & Transactions. "Delta and GE have a long, positive history of working together, and we are pleased to expand our partnership with this aircraft order."

"Delta Air Lines will be the first North American CF6-80E1 engine operator and the launch customer of our newly enhanced engine," said Kevin McAllister, vice president and general manager of Global Sales & Marketing for GE Aviation. "The newly enhanced CF6-80E1 engine and 242-ton A330 aircraft combination will provide improved fuel efficiency, greater range and increased payload to help lower Delta Air Lines' cost of ownership."

GE remains committed to the CF6-80E1 engine and continues to invest in technology improvements for the engine. Last year, GE Aviation announced plans to refine the component efficiencies across the CF6-80E1 engine for Airbus' enhanced A330 aircraft with a 242-ton takeoff weight capability and extended nautical mile range.

Over the last decade, GE has seen a more than 10 percent increase in engine time on wing for the CF6-80E1 engine, which has helped the engine establish the lowest operating and maintenance costs compared to other A330 engine options. The enhancements will become the production standard for all new CF6-80E1 engines. Current operators will have the option to incorporate many of these enhancements at engine overhaul. More than 525 CF6-80E1 engines have been delivered for the Airbus A330 aircraft.
