US airline shares higher ahead of antitrust immunity ruling

US airline stocks rose on Friday, ahead of the US Department of Transportation's ruling granting antitrust immunity for Continental Airlines' membership of the Star Alliance. Airline stocks also gained ground as the oil price eased below USD60 per barrel.

Alaska Air led the way, rising 8.2%, followed by Continental (+6.5%), Hawaiian (+5.2%) and American Airlines (+4.8%). US Airways continued to slide, losing a further 4.6%.
