Thai AirAsia budget airline to fly Hanoi-Bangkok route soon

Analysis

HANOI (XFNews) - Thai AirAsia, a subsidiary of Malaysia-based budget carrier AirAsia, will launch daily Bangkok-Hanoi flights in a few weeks, said the company's chief executive officer Tassapon Bijleveld.

The flights could begin in September or October, Tassapon said in an email.

"We are presently focused on building the route between Bangkok and Hanoi, and at setting up distribution outlets and offices in Vietnam," he told Agence France-Presse.

The firm won a licence to offer Hanoi-Bangkok flights in May.

The carrier will operate seven flights a week between the two capitals.

Malaysia-based AirAsia owns 49 pct of Thai AirAsia, with Thailand's Shin Corp holds 51 pct.

Singapore-based Tiger Airways was the first low-cost airline to begin operating flights to Vietnam on April 1.
More than 20 international airlines operate in the Vietnamese market so far.
