TAM in talks with TRIP for expanded partnership

Brazil's largest airline, TAM, has revealed it is in negotiations with Brazilian domestic carrier TRIP Linhas Aereas to identify opportunities to expand and strengthen their businesses.

The Brazilian carriers have held a codeshare since May-2004. TAM shares were down 0.8% on a day when listed airline shares in Latin America and North America dropped across the board, as share markets reacted to the Japanese earthquake disaster. US airline stocks were particularly hard hit.

GOL reported the following traffic highlights in Feb-2011:

  • Passenger traffic (RPKs): +4.5% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: +4.4%;
    • International: +5.9%;
  • Load factor: 71.2%, +0.5 ppt;
    • Domestic: 72.4%, +0.8 ppt;
    • International: 62%, -2.1 ppts.
