Southwest Airlines - Aug-08 load factors fall sharply….again

Southwest Airlines reported its load factors fell a concerning 5.4 ppts in Aug-08 to 74.6%. Passenger numbers were also down, with the carrier transporting 9.0 million passengers, a 6.6% year-on-year reduction, of which 7.8 million were revenue passengers (-6.3% year-on-year). Traffic (RPMs) fell 5.2% year-on-year, while the carrier’s capacity increased (ASMs) 1.5% during the period. [813 words]
