Singapore Airlines confident of flying A380 in Oct despite pilot dispute

Analysis

Singapore (XFN-ASIA) - Singapore Airlines Ltd (SIA) should

start operating its first Airbus A380 airliner in October, as planned, despite

a dispute with its pilots over their salaries, SIA chairman Stephen Lee said.

Lee told reporters after meeting the airline's unions: "The A380 delivery is scheduled in October. I don't think this will affect the operations of the planes."

The airline's dispute with its pilots will be considered by the Industrial Arbitration Court on April 23.

"Sometimes, when the positions are quite far apart, mediation or arbitration may not be a bad thing," Lee said.

T he dispute is over how much the pilots should get for flying the A380.

SIA is the launch customer for the A380 and has committed itself to buying 19 of them.
