Shanghai airports traffic soaring, Auckland Airport traffic up in May-2010
Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao airports generated very strong increases in passenger numbers in May-2010, with the CAAC East China Regional Administration reporting) the following traffic highlights for its member airports:
- Passenger numbers: 14.2 million, +22.5% year-on-year;
- Shanghai Pudong Airport: 3.3 million, +27.0%;
- Shanghai Hongqiao Airport: 2.6 million, +15.8%;
- Hangzhou Airport: 1.4 million, +20.8%;
- Xiamen Airport: 1.1 million, +17.6%;
- Nanjing Airport: 999,718, +18.0%;
- Qingdao Airport: 931,382, +20.6%;
- Cargo volume: 457,548 tonnes, +43.8%;
- Shanghai Pudong: 296,800 tonnes, +55.6%;
- Shanghai Hongqiao: 39,503 tonnes, +14.6%;
- Hangzhou: 24,348 tonnes, +39.9%;
- Xiamen: 22,482 tonnes, +28.8%;
- Nanjing: 19,010 tonnes, +16.0%;
- Qingdao: 13,510 tonnes, +31.9%;
- Aircraft movements: 127,204, +15.9%;
- Shanghai Pudong: 27,847, +17.8%;
- Shanghai Hongqiao: 18,333, +12.5%;
- Hangzhou: 12,512, +17.4%;
- Xiamen: 9,840, +11.8%;
- Nanjing: 9,507, +8.9%;
- Qingdao: 8,855, +8.5%.

Auckland traffic higher
Meanwhile, Auckland Airport reported a 1.8% increase in international passenger traffic last month to 545,048 (including transits), after a flat result in Apr-2010. The airport noted that Business/Conference traffic grew strongly last month, expanding by 17.4% last month to 43,780. Domestic traffic rose 7.1% to 464,315, attributed to "Jetstar driving higher passenger numbers than Qantas last year".
