Plans for major car rental facility at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Atlanta City Council (ACC) announced plans to develop a 90-acre USD459 million rental car facility and people mover, adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

To fund the project, ACC has imposed a USD4 per day charge on all airport rental car contracts commencing 01-Oct-05. Construction of the facility is expected to commence as early as Mar-06. ACC awarded the following contracts for the project:

  • Archer Western Contractors Ltd and Capital Contracting Co JV: USD171 million design and construction contract;
  • Sumitomo Corporation of America/Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America Inc: Contract to operate and maintain the people mover (financial terms were not disclosed);
  • Austin Commercial LP and PRAD Group JV: USD211 million contract to be the construction manager at risk.
