Mexico’s GAP emerging from swine flu crisis better than ASUR and OMA

Mexico’s Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP) is faring better than rivals Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) and Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA) in the early stages of recovery from the swine flu shock, particularly in the key international market.

GAP, OMA and ASUR international passenger number growth: Jul-2008 to Jun-2009

GAP reports total passenger numbers in Jun-2009 were down 20.1% to 1.5 million, including a 17.5% reduction in domestic traffic to 1.0 million and a 25.4% fall in international traffic to 449,800.

ASUR reports total passenger numbers last month fell 28.4 to 1.1 million, including a 17.6% reduction in domestic traffic to 552,710 million and a 36.7% reduction in international traffic to 549,256 – around 100,000 more than GAP.

OMA reported the heaviest fall in domestic traffic of the three last month, down 18.4% to 823,300. International passengers fell 32.3% to 120,300, while total passenger numbers were down 20.5% to 943,600
