Malaysia Airlines MD Ahmad Fuaad Dahalan resigns effective today

KUALA LUMPUR (XF News) - Malaysia Airlines System Bhd's managing director Ahmad Fuaad Dahalan, 55, has resigned effective today, the company said in a statement to the stock exchange. 

No reasons were given.

The retirement age in Malaysia is 55 years.

Ahmad Fuaad was appointed as MAS' managing director on April 1, 2004.

In a separate statement, MAS said Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz has been redesignated as executive director from being non-executive director.

Azmil is currently the managing director and chief executive officer of Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd, parent of MAS.

At a media briefing announcing MAS' first quarter results, the national carrier's chairman Munir Majid said the company will begin a search for a new managing director but that in the interim he, as the chairman, will assume the responsibilities of the position.
