Analysis

10-May-07 - EVA Air has completed its first B747-400 freighter

conversion - the first of a series of B747-400's to be converted

over the next two years. The newly converted aircraft performed its first duty

today by flying to Anchorage and Los Angeles from Taipei.

Mr K W Nieh, Executive Vice President of EVA Air, stated "following the establishment of our A330-200 fleet and introduction of our B777-300ER fleet, we took the decision to convert some of our B747-400 aircraft to freighters to meet current cargo market demands. We feel this decision will put EVA in a positive position in the competitive freight market and will enable us to offer our customers an unparalleled quality of service."

The new B747-400 freighter features additional cargo shipment security through its enhanced Smoke Detection System. The structure payload of the freighter is 114 tons with 30 main deck pallets.

The EVA Air B747-400 fleet comprises three freighters, six passengers and nine combi aircraft. From 2006 to 2009, EVA will send three B747-400 all passenger and five combi to the Israel Aerospace Industries for conversion to freighters. It is expected that three of eight converted freighters will be ready for delivery in 2007, two in 2008 and three in 2009.

EVA established its "European Cargo Center" in 2003 in Brussels and opened its " Southern China Cargo Center" in Hong Kong in 2006.
