Changes to check-in procedures – airline operating expediency or an attempt at social engineering?


Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s CEO, recently stated that he expected the carrier to save up to EUR50 million per annum in ground handling fees, through his airline’s plans to discourage passengers to check in hold baggage. The carrier plans to eliminate airport check-in desks at all the airports it operates at in Oct-09, which will then require passengers to take their own luggage to bag drops.
