Australian airport prices continue to rise

Premium Analysis

Aeronautical charges at Australia's major airports, such as

use of runways and passenger processing facilities, have continued to increase

in 2005-2006, although at a slower pace. The Australian Competition and Consumer

Commission* (ACCC) issued its airports price monitoring and financial report

2005-06, which reports on the prices charged by Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra,

Darwin, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney airports. According to the ACCC, most airports

reported increases that ranged from 1.2% to 12%. Adelaide reported an average

price increase of 49% after it began operations of its new Terminal 1 and introduced

new Passenger Facilitation Charges. Since 2002, it has reported a 290% rise

in total aeronautical revenue.
