Analysis

KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad) - Members of the public will get a chance to view aviation industry's flagship of the 21st century, the Airbus A380 in a fly-pass over Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur City Centre and Subang between 9.30 am to 10.30am at a considerable low altitude on Friday, 18 November. The aircraft will depart KLIA at 9.30am for the fly- pass, en-route its journey back to Toulouse in Southern France.

A rousing welcome is expected for the A380 when it arrives at the KL International Airport on 17 November 2005 whereby the aircraft with its codename MSN001 will be displayed for private viewing at the Bunga Raya Complex from 1030 am to 5.00pm. Later the aircraft will be pushed back to the passengers' gate to undergo various airport compatibility verification tests.

The MSN001 is the first of five aircrafts taking part in the flight-test campaign and this is its first long haul journey to Asia Pacific. As a test aircraft; the cabin is bare of the normal passengers fittings and fixtures. Instead, the cabin is fitted with extensive flight-test instrumentation, measuring equipment and ballast tanks that can be filled with water to simulate the weight of a full load of passengers and cargo.

During the private viewing session, Airbus has only agreed to host 200 guests to view the interior of the aircraft, so as to avoid congestion inside the aircraft which may affect the test equipments.

Members of the public will be able to view the aircraft along the perimeter road of the Bunga Raya complex that leads to the Petronas Depot on 17th November. On 18th November, members of the public will get a good chance to view the departure of the aircraft from the Viewing Hill, located at the Jalan Pekeliling of KLIA when the aircraft departs KLIA at 9.30am and the city people of the Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya & Subang will get to glimpse the aircraft when it does its fly pass over these three areas before it heads back to its base in Toulouse, France.

In this respect, the authorities of the KLIA advise the members of the public to observe all the traffic and crowd supervisions in order to avoid disruptions to the airport operations.

Invited guest to the Bunga Raya Complex may commute via ERL and shuttle service will be provided to transfer them to Bunga Raya Complex from Door 8, Level 5, Departure Hall of Main Terminal Building. The shuttle service will be operating from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm on 17 Nov.

The A380, which has the length of eight London buses end-to-end and with enough room on its wings to park 70 cars, heralds a new era in passenger travel. While in Malaysia, guests will have the opportunity to compare its size with that of the Airbus A330 as Malaysia Airlines will be parking the latter nose-to-nose with the A380.
