Advanced New Fleet of Porter Airlines Will Get Advanced Communications from ARINC

Analysis

Annapolis, Maryland (ARINC) - When Canada's newest carrier, Porter Airlines, launches scheduled service from downtown Toronto later this year, passengers will have a totally new experience on brand-new, low-noise aircraft departing right from Toronto City Centre Airport (TCCA). Porter Airlines is also supporting its innovative airline concept with the most advanced package of air/ground communications available.

Under a contract just signed, ARINC Incorporated will provide Porter Airlines with its world-standard GLOBALinkSM VHF data link service for operational communications. This will be enhanced with a suite of five ARINC value-added flight support applications to increase operating efficiency throughout the airline and provide Porter's pilots state-of-the-art technology in the cockpit.

These applications will include ARINC's exclusive OpCenterSM service for secure web-enabled air and ground message management and automated delivery of air traffic predeparture clearances (PDCs). Porter's pilots will also have the advantage of further ARINC air traffic service messaging to obtain up-to-the-minute arrival and departure airport conditions and weather information, all direct to the cockpit.

Porter has also chosen ARINC's WebASDSM flight-following application to deliver real-time graphical weather and positioning of Porter aircraft while enroute. ARINC's AviNet high-performance, secure global ground network will carry Porter's mission-critical traffic to industry and air traffic partners with IBM MQ message assurance.

"We selected ARINC's proposal for its good value, including products and services combined in a comprehensive pricing package," stated Porter Airlines' president and chief executive officer (CEO) Robert Deluce.
